As a result of the call, a confrontation took place on highway 191 in Morenci in which gun shots were exchanged between the officers and the suspect. During the confrontation both officers were shot and sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, Chris Ingram, a 29 year old male, also received gunshot wounds and later died from his injuries while being attended to at the Emergency Room of the Gila Health Clinic in Morenci.
Lieutenant Jeromy Vaughn from Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office recently sent Point Blank Enterprises a letter which states, “It is my opinion that, had Deputy Mennen not been wearing this armor, his injuries would have been much more significant. Due to Deputy Mennen’s actions and the performance of this body armor, he is expected to fully recover and return work in a few months.”
Deputy Mennen was wearing Point Blank Hi-Lite carrier with XPIIIA ballistic system at the time of the shooting.
